Licence

Admin → Settings → Licence. DataFactory checks its licence offline. It never contacts Enov8 or any other service to do so.

What's in it

The licence is one line of text starting with DFL1.. It holds your organisation's name and a licence ID, the last day it's valid, a grace period (normally 14 days), the modules it covers (Prune, Bloom, AI) and, optionally, how many active users you can have. Enov8 signs it, so any change to the text makes it invalid.

The Licence tab shows its status, Customer, Licence ID, Expires, Includes and Users (Up to N or Unlimited).

StatusMeaning
ActiveAll good
Expiring soon30 days or fewer left
Expired, grace periodPast its last day; everything still works until Read-only from
ExpiredRead-only
No licenceRead-only until one is installed
Not validThe text was changed or is for another product. Read-only.

Install or renew it

  1. Go to Admin → Settings → Licence. The first time an admin signs in without a licence, this page opens by itself.
  2. Paste the licence from Enov8 and click Install.

It takes effect within a minute. A renewal lifts any read-only restriction straight away.

You can also set it as configuration:

PlatformWhere
Linux server or applianceinstall.sh -l FILE, or LICENCE=<text> in /opt/datafactory/.env, then sudo docker compose -p datafactory up -d in /opt/datafactory
AWSThe LICENCE key of the datafactory/app secret, then a new deployment of the services
KubernetesLICENCE in secrets.env, then kubectl apply -k .

A licence set as configuration takes precedence. The tab then shows it read-only, with Set by the LICENCE environment variable, so renew it in the same place.

Near and after expiry

WhenWhat people see
30 days beforeAdmins see Licence expires in N days above every page
During the grace periodEveryone sees Licence expired on … Read-only from …. Everything still works.
After the grace period, or with no valid licenceRead-only. People can sign in, browse and download existing results. New prunes, Bloom runs and changes to connections, data sets and plans are refused.

No data is deleted at any stage, and expired output files are still cleaned up. Setting the server clock back doesn't extend a licence.

Other limits

  • Users. If the licence sets a user count, adding or re-enabling a user beyond it is refused: The licence allows N active users. Disable a user or ask Enov8 for more. This includes people added automatically by single sign-on.
  • Modules. A module the licence doesn't cover is refused, e.g. The licence does not include Bloom.
